My first book tour!

It goes without saying that I will do my first book tour in Mistissini. I am very excited. I am awaiting confirmation on the dates and then I will make an official event on Facebook! I am so excited. The book is a sensitive topic for sure but I know that now is the time to start talking about our history and to teach our young ones about OUR past. In schools, we learn about the white man's version of the past but from now, we tell our own tales, recount our own experiences, and it is finally time to listen to our people. Our elders are leaving this earth one by one and their stories will leave with them if left untold. Let us never forget what they fought so hard for. Let us never forget their hard work as they held on to our culture and language. As a storyteller, I vow to listen and to speak for them as they journey on to the spirit world. Our children will know the battles our elders and ancestors faced. I am proud of my ancestors. I wish that they could have had a hero to protect them, but as it turns out, they became our heroes.

Working on my New book

I recently found out about a distant cousin of mine who had been murdered near val d'or and I was very saddened by this information. All my years of studying and researching this topic I have never thought about looking into my own family. It saddens me to know that my cousin's killer was never caught, and this is often the case with Missing and murdered Indigenous women. Questions are left unanswered and the victims and their families are left without justice.

In my new book, I focus on a character's journey back to eeyou istchee. She is a young girl who is facing a hard time. Without giving away too many details It's overall topic focuses on Missing and Murdered Indigenous women and the fight to journey back to find freedom and peace by going back to our heritage, culture, and traditions. what I love most about this book is the mix of Cree and English. A reader can experience an educational journey into the cree language and learn words and terms in Cree. For the non-cree speaker, it is a mystery and for those who do speak cree, well I hope they find comfort in reading words from their own language in a short novel.
